Electrolysis
Lesson slides to introduce concept of electrolysis. Starter introduces students to subject by encouraging them to set up the apparatus needed for the electrolysis of aqueous copper chloride and identify the products. Demonstration of electrolysis of molten lead bromide highlights the process does not work on solid substances. Students then discover importance of electrolysis in the extraction of aluminium. A scaffolded worksheet allows students to record key information. A crossword is also included as a plenary or homework. This lesson is ideal for bridging the gap between KS3 and KS4 as an introduction to electrolysis so is well suited to year 9 students.
