READY TO PRINT - Emotional Thermometer Toolkit for use at home or in school. Suitable for Secondary age, including young people with SEN or specific barriers associated with self-regulation. See more resources from MindBridge Hub for use at home and in school.
An emotional thermometer is a visual tool that helps young people recognise, understand and communicate how they are feeling. It supports students to notice changes in emotions, stress levels and energy before feelings become overwhelming.
The thermometer usually uses colours, numbers or zones to show different emotional states, from calm and regulated through to anxious, angry or overwhelmed. Students can use it to identify triggers, understand body signals and choose helpful coping or regulation strategies.
Emotional thermometers are useful both at home and in school because they encourage emotional awareness, self-reflection and communication. They can also help trusted adults respond earlier with support, reducing escalation and helping young people feel safer, calmer and more understood.
