English Functional Skills - Entry Level 2 Writing - Alphabetical Order

This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 2 Functional Skills English certification. It contains an age-appropriate, 70-slide PowerPoint lesson and a 25-page workbook on the Entry Level 2 writing component - use the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical.

PowerPoint Lesson

The PowerPoint lesson explains why knowing alphabetical order is an important skill. It visually demonstrates how to place words in alphabetical order to the first and second letter. The PowerPoint provides many examples and opportunities for pupils to put items in alphabetical order. There are also tasks that involve pupils identifying where patients records can be found in a filing system and where CDs can be found in boxes.

The PowerPoint also contains a link to a short video explaining alphabetical order.

Workbook

This 26-page workbook contains four explanation pages, twenty worksheets (with answers), a progress check and a certificate of achievement on using the first and second letters to sequence words in alphabetical order.

Tasks and activities include:

using the first and second letter to sequence words in alphabetical order
locating patients names in a filing system
locating CDs by singers in a filing system
rewriting shopping lists in alphabetical order
correcting an index in alphabetical order
