Structured EPQ student guide with phased checklists for essays and artefacts. Supports AO1–AO4 through planning, research, evaluation, and final submission.
This resource is a comprehensive student-facing guide designed to support successful completion of the Extended Project Qualification across the entire project timeline.
It breaks the EPQ process into clear phases, with structured checklists that help students plan effectively, document their thinking, and provide explicit evidence for AO1–AO4. The guidance applies to both essay-based and artefact-based projects and reflects the expectations of Level 3 work.
Rather than offering generic advice, the guide focuses on what students must actually produce and record at each stage of the EPQ. It encourages regular evaluation, purposeful research, and continual refinement of aims and objectives, areas where marks are most commonly lost.
This guide supports students in:
-
Planning and refining a viable EPQ title and objectives
-
Conducting and recording meaningful research
-
Managing time and decision-making across the year
-
Evidencing learning, skills development, and evaluation
-
Aligning documentation with assessment objectives
The checklists can be used independently by students or alongside supervision meetings. They are particularly useful for reducing last-minute work, improving logbook quality, and helping students understand how their process is assessed.
This resource complements the official AQA specification and mark scheme but does not replace them. Centres should apply their own policies regarding supervision, recording, and the use of AI tools.
