Guess & Weigh is a practical outdoor maths activity focused on measuring mass, estimation, and calculation. Pupils collect natural objects, estimate their weight, then use scales to measure the actual mass and compare results. This hands-on approach helps make abstract measurement concepts more meaningful.

Pupils record both estimated and measured weights and calculate the difference between the two, developing confidence with subtraction, accuracy, and mathematical reasoning. The activity encourages discussion about units, precision, and why estimates vary.

This low-prep lesson is ideal for KS2 maths, outdoor learning, and practical measurement lessons, and can be used with small groups, whole classes, or in a homeschool setting.
