Focuses on: Developments in Christian ideas of ‘mission’ from the early 20th century to today.

Starts with key concept check. Students then explore the spread of Christianity throughout history, and enquire into Church and mission, looking at the example of missionary John Allen Chau by reading an article about his fatal mission to North Sentinel Island. Students then look at an academic source (on the PowerPoint) about mission in a 21st century context, followed by creating a timeline to show developments in Christian ideas of ‘mission’ from the early 20th century to today. They have to use their timelines to answer two questions about mission, and then need to explain verbally to their neighbour what they’ve learned. Exam question included.

Resources included: PowerPoints (2 versions - 1 if you have already looked at John Allen Chau, and 1 for if you haven’t), lesson plan, John Allen Chau article, Exclusive Brethren information sheet, template boxes for timeline if students wish to use it.

Students will need textbooks.
