This bundle of fun targets literacy skill development using the book Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl.

BINGO - 6 GAMES - Chapter aligned - 10 Boards, 25 Flash Cards per game

Skill Target: Vocabulary Development

This game can be played by 2 to 10 players, or more in groups. There is a game for every three chapters and games can be combined to cater for a larger group. The Flash Cards can be used for intervention prior to playing. The winner has to have a line of words, either horizontally or vertically but it’s fun to vary this to add novelty. Covering the ‘Race Track’ (all the words around the perimeter) extends the game.

STACK 4 - 17 GAMES - 17 Worksheet/Games aligned to chapters (Chapters 17 and 18 combined)

Skill Target: Vocabulary Development, Word Families (Grammar, Spelling)

Stack 4 doubles as a worksheet and a game for two players. You need a six sided die for each game and players need small objects to claim spaces. Use pencils for single play but the game is never the same twice due to the random nature of the throw of the die. It can be used over and over, and the game can be extended to see how many stacks can be won. I send this one home for homework.

SPOONS - 6 CARD GAMES aligned to blocks of three chapters - Card Game for up to 6 players.

Skilll Targets: Decoding/Encoding as subskills in vocabulary development

Spoons is a riot of a game with high levels of engagement which is just as well as the skill target is so critical for developing readers. All the words used have three syllables and the winner has to combine three cards with a syllable on each to make a word. There is a word list that targets decoding and the cards target encoding. This is my go-to game for students with dyslexic characteristics.

DONKEY - 6 CARD GAMES aligned to blocks of three chapters - 2 to 6 players (the more players, the better)

Skill Target: Vocabulary Development through Opposites

This would be my most popular game because it is so simple and can be played with even the youngest players who understand the game process. I have adapted it to matching opposites to put it in the realm of transitioning from structured readers to literature. Fantastic Mr Fox is an ideal book for this stage of literacy development.
