Lessons 3 and 4 of a KS3/Year 8 SOW I put together on Islam, designed to embed GCSE exam skills in preparation for students beginning the GCSE course in Year 9. First 2 lessons on beliefs about Allah are available to download, but the Five Pillars lessons do work independently from these.

These 2 lessons introduce the Five Pillars. Students first read an article on and discuss prayer. They then work together to use the information on the Five Pillars to complete a booklet on them. They then use this information to complete a 4 and 5 mark GCSE exam question. Help mats are provided for this with example answers and mark criteria. The 4 and 5 mark questions are based on AQA GCSE RE/RS, but can be easily adapted. Could also therefore be used for KS4

This resource includes:
Powerpoint
Lesson plan
Five Pillars Information
Five Pillars student booklet
4 and 5 mark question help mat
