This lesson is on the causes and effects of flooding. It’s suited for year 9s as well as a GCSE group. Key facts about the lesson are:

The lesson starts by using a video clip to introduce the definition and nature of floods. Then there is a task that help students to learn about the human and physical causes of floods. Finally the lesson explores the effects of floods using a couple of really engaging activities.

The lesson has a range of learning activities suitable to different types of learners; there are video clips and photos to make real the nature of floods. There is an animation clip to reinforce learning on the causes of floods. There is also an activity where students have to extract information from a still photo clip and a no commentary video clip. This task will really develop those interpretation skills that are key to a geographer.

The lesson was designed to introduce aspects of the new GCSE specifications in year 9. However, it will easily suit the learning needs of a GCSE group as well.

It's a complete lesson with all the resources you need to deliver it - a starter, learning activities, plenary etc. All you will need is the ppt which can be downloaded then just teach!
