GCSE Foundation tier/Level 1 worksheet adapted for lower sets/prior-attainment students with lower demand calculations and scaffolding, including colour-coded variables to aid with substitution and rearrangement. For the standard Efficiency worksheet click here.

Support your lower prior attainment students and develop their confidence and skills in answering Efficiency calculations with this “Shed Loads of Practice” (SLOP) style worksheet.

This resource offers students the opportunity to practice and refine their calculation skills through 3 worked examples and 9 worded questions, with a strong emphasis on showing full working. Features both the useful/total energy and power equations which appear in P1 Energy on AQA Combined Science (6.1.2.2 Efficiency) and AQA Separate Physics (4.1.2.2) GCSE specifications.

Worksheet is designed to support students in answering Level 1 calculation questions typically found in the majority of Foundation AQA Physics Papers, while building some fundamental skills that will allow students to move onto tackling level 2 demand calculations found at the end of a foundation paper/the start of a higher papers.

Included:

  • Ready-to-print worksheet (.doc and .pdf) featuring 3 worked examples and 9 independent calculation questions, and colour-coded variables
  • Ready-to-print solution document (.doc and .pdf)
  • Worked examples and solutions PowerPoint (.ppt)

Designed to help you to:

  • Save time with a ready-to-print resource for in class, homework, cover work or targeted intervention
  • Model methods through "we do"Worked Examples demonstrating the skills for calculation and problem-solving.
  • Facilitate extensive practice with 9 “you do” worded calculations.
  • Provide clear expectations of routines with solutions which follow the FIFA approach (Formula, Insert, Fine-tune, Answer) targeting substitution and rearrangement.
  • Help ensure progress for all with questions that gradually increase in demand as complexity increases or scaffolding is removed
  • Feedback without fuss with full solutions and answers ready to project or distribute to allow self-assessment or peer-assessment green penning
  • Adapt resources for your context or needs with a reseource ready for classroom learning, homework, cover work, or revision that could be adjusted for Key Stage 3 learners or the Edexcel/OCR GCSE specifications.
