EYFS/KS1/KS2 (Years 3/4) Group speaking lesson plans for teaching French food and drink. Students will also learn how to ask 'What are you eating/drinking?’ and 'I am eating/drinking…’
These activities are for children who are learning French for the first time. The lessons are also extremely active and very fun!

This package is the fifth topic in a ten part series of resources called ‘A Year of French Fun’, designed to last an academic year but it can also be used on its own.

Students can also enjoy a fun video with the vocabulary from the topic being modeled by Tonton the Tortoise!
I have provided the script of the video too.

The language covered is…
What are you eating?
I am eating…
A baguette
Salad
Yoghurt
Pain au chocolat
Croissant
Fromage
Jambon
Frites
What are you drinking?
I am drinking
Coke
Hot chocolate
Milk
Tea
Coffee
Orange juice
Apple juice
Water

There are three lessons plans in this package and it is recommended that you use one per week. You will also find lots of creative ideas for extension activities.
The activities are very short and easy to set up, this is to enable you to drip feed French into your weekly routine when you find the time.

The use of puppets or toys to help you model the language is also very important in the lessons in order to add fun to the lessons and you will find guidance on how to do this.

The first lesson introduces food and how to ask ‘What are you eating?’. It has a corresponding sheet of small flashcards to cut out to play a game of ‘What are you eating Mr Wolf?’ which is just like the game ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’

I have added black and white versions of the food and drink cards for a colouring extension activity.

The second lesson is exactly the same as the first except it introduces drinks and how to ask ‘What are you drinking?’ You will also play ‘What are you drinking Mr Wolf?’

You will need lots of space for the first two lessons!

The third lesson has several sheets to print out for a game of Food and Drink Bingo! Students will practise listening to the food and drink vocabulary and they will also practise saying ‘I am drinking / I am eating…’
