This 5-page formative assessment includes a two-page informational text, Ce que le vent transporte (What the Wind Carries), 13 questions, a four-level achievement rubric and an answer key. All materials are in French.
The text follows everything the wind moves without us seeing it: Saharan dust that crosses the Atlantic and feeds the Amazon rainforest, young spiders that take off at the end of a silk thread, pollen, smoke and even snow. It also gives a simple rule: « Plus une particule est grosse, plus elle retombe vite. » (The bigger a particle is, the faster it falls.)
The questions follow the structure of the series: locating information, inference supported by a clue and understanding the whole text. The rubric scores four skills on four levels, and the answer key ends with a table that suggests a short activity for each weak skill, for example highlighting the clue in the text before writing the answer.
It works well to check progress in the middle of a reading block, before a summative assessment.
