This is a collaborative - inquiry lesson, leading on from my previous ‘further quadratics 1’ lesson. This has been created for year 11 students.
(Set as £1 due to time taken creating the tables.)

The starter is expanding brackets, with one harder one added for those who can complete it.

Students are given a quadratic equation and a values table - not to match - from those included in the powerpoint. (please note they are in matched pairs on the slides).
Each student is to solve their equation (using factorisation) and plot their graph. They then need to work with other students to find the matches for their work and to identify what one can indicate about the other.
Students should be able to identify the intercepts from both graph and equation and may recognise the symetrical nature of the graph, and therefore its turning point.

handout slides have been hidden in the presentation.

Students can be given GCSE questions s extension after this presentation.

Topic areas covered:
Interpret quadratic graphs (roots, intercepts and turning points)
Draw, sketch, recognise and interpret quadratic graphs
Deduce turning points by factorising the quadratic
