I have become increasingly frustrated with students not knowing the basic vocabulary that will help them to succeed in the exams for the new GCSE French specification - particularly the Speaking and Writing exam. As a way of trying to remedy this I have created some starter activities to reinforce a range of opinion phrases and important verbs that students should have a confident grasp of. My colleague has created a similar resource based on important terms in GCSE Business Studies - she rotates the starter activities every lesson so that students almost become sick of seeing the same terms but they know them off by heart now. This is my aim with these resources! I hope they prove useful to anyone finding the same frustrating issues!

This resource includes the following:
Opinion phrases starter activities -
1. Match up the French and English
2. Fill in the missing letters to find English translation of opinion phrases
3. Fill in the missing letters to find the French translation of opinion phrases
4. Organise the opinion phrases from most negative to most positive and then translate into English
5. Sort the opinion phrases into two columns - positive and negative
6. Unjumble the French opinion phrases - what do they mean in English?
7. Find the opinion phrases in the wordsearch
8. Translate the sentences containing opinion phrases into English.

There are also 3 worksheets on opinion phrases - a wordsearch, a crossword and a code breaker.

Important verbs starter activities -
1. Match up the French and English
2. Fill in the missing letters to find English translation of important verbs
3. Fill in the missing letters to find the French translation of important verbs
4. Sort the verbs into the correct columns - talking about yourself, talking about others, talking about a thing/event
5. Unjumble the French verbs - what do they mean in English?
6. Translate the sentences including important verbs into English

There are also 3 worksheets on important verbs - a wordsearch, a crossword and a code breaker.

I have created the same resources in Spanish.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN THE PREVIEW SOME OF THE PICTURES LOOK LIKE THEY ARE OVERLAPPING - THEY ARE NOT LIKE THIS IN THE ORIGINAL FILE. I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE RESOURCES MYSELF FROM TES TO DOUBLE CHECK THE LAYOUT AND IT IS ALL FINE AND NOT OVERLAPPING.
