GCSE Maths practice on function machines, function notation, composite and inverse functions, change of sign and iteration. The Core practice and the first six graded-workbook questions form a Foundation machine and algebra route. Developing, Higher and the formal-notation lesson are for AQA/Pearson Higher; OCR may use the notation as enrichment. The mini test gives a separate Foundation skills route for questions 1–4 (9 marks), while questions 5–11 are Higher.
Board scope: AQA 8300 and Pearson Edexcel 1MA1 assess formal function notation, composites, inverses and iterative formulae at Higher. OCR J560 covers Higher composition ideas without requiring formal function notation; its GCSE root approximation uses systematic sign-change methods rather than iterative-formula notation. Use the relevant sections for your board. Formal f(x) notation, composites, inverses and formula iteration are labelled HT in question sheets and quizzes; the lesson displays its audience on every slide.
