A ready-to-use KS3 Geography cover lesson on Plate Tectonics, designed to provide students with a range of independent activities covering the structure of the Earth, tectonic plates and plate boundaries.
Students will:
Learn about the structure of the Earth and its four main layers.
Learn about tectonic plates and the different types of plate boundary.
Label and colour a map of the world’s tectonic plates.
Complete a tectonics word search featuring key geographical vocabulary.
Investigate constructive, destructive and conservative boundaries.
Complete a Tectonics Detective activity.
Analyse diagrams and describe what is happening at different plate boundaries.
Identify hazards and physical features associated with plate movement.
Complete an anagram and recall activities to reinforce key terminology.
The lesson is designed to be easy to follow for a non-specialist teacher, last about an hour, with clear instructions and a mixture of written, visual and colouring activities to keep students engaged throughout the lesson.
There is one information sheet to print out for the students and a double-side worksheet that can even be coloured in.
