This German conjugation workbook focuses on a range of German verb groups in the present tense: modals, regular, irregular and separable verbs. They’re really popular with my students, and I always have a stock of them in files, so that students have instant access to them. They often select the conjugation workbooks to work on during free-choice class time, or to take home, particularly approaching exam time - they’re great for revision. They’re also useful for cover lessons, holiday practice and revision work and similar.
There are 25-high frequency German verbs, and the workbook is structured as follows:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual present tense conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
There’s a Notes and Next Steps page in the workbook - we use this to map progress, and to note ideas for improvement. It’s also a great place to note any additional high-frequency verbs that students learn, and this helps to build up a really strong verb vocab bank.
The second file is a 6-page answer key in book form - giving students answer keys is essential in my opinion, as it helps them develop more independence in their learning, it gives them an additional opportunity to engage with the conjugations, and they actually really enjoy reviewing each others’ work in particular!
