Year 9 lesson - high ability set, can be adapted very slightly for year 10.

Range of different activities, recall of group 1 (using a game called teach me tell me - one partner faces the board the other faces them, the partner has to recall as many words regarding a topic without looking at the board - competitive!!!), word-fills, displacement content which is differentiated (not the practical - a lot to fit in) stretch for more-able so the observer knows you have every angle, beat the teacher activity, flash-card friday plenary.

As you can see there is lots in the lesson! :)

If questioned about the amount of content, it just shows you have high expectations and are ready to challenge your pupils! This shouldn't take 2 lessons!

Also - has opportunity for model learning to ensure visualisation of shielding/attraction - use a clamp stand and a magnet attached to it with a string, demonstrate the attraction of another magnet the closer it gets to the one attached to the string. This demonstrates the attraction of the nucleus nicely!

IF your pupils are very high ability and are year 10, adapt this to include areas of shielding in more depth - can be discussed during the stretch activity (which I printed and placed at a stretch station in my lab).

Enjoy.
