Follow six illustrated steps to draw a pumpkin lantern, friendly ghost, little bat, curious cat, smiling spider and pocket monster. A matching writing task helps children turn their picture into a description, short adventure or invitation.

Suggested audience: KS2, Years 3–6 (approximately ages 7–11). Choose support according to individual reading and writing readiness.

Included:

  • 14 student pages: a character-choice page, six drawing guides and six matching draw-and-write pages.
  • Six numbered stages on each guide, using simple cartoon shapes.
  • A different short writing task for each character.
  • One open drawing-and-writing page for an original character or extra response.
  • Three teacher pages with teaching ideas, sample creative responses and feedback suggestions.

Model one step at a time, or use the guides independently. Earlier features are retained as the drawing develops. These are friendly cartoon-art activities. Use real reference images when teaching scientific observational drawing. Writing responses are open-ended; teacher samples are examples.
