Halves and Quarters — Year 1 Maths

A friendly Year 1 fractions lesson built around fair sharing. Children learn that a half is one of two equal parts and a quarter is one of four, fold paper to make halves and quarters, and find halves and quarters of small groups by sharing out one at a time. It is a ready-to-teach PowerPoint scaffold for an hour-long lesson on halves and quarters, with a Fold and Colour activity and a Teddy’s Tea Party sharing game using counters. Worked examples such as half of 6 and a quarter of 8 are built in.
