The Marvellous Maths Machine is a great way to introduce a new unit of work. In the animated PPT the machine magically transforms numbers. In goes 12, out comes 6. In goes 18, out comes 9. Can your class work out what it is doing today?
Initially the challenge is to work out what the machine is doing. This is a great opportunity for children to explain their mathematical thinking. Next the children work out which number will emerge from the machine by halving the number that is going in.

I have named the presentation file 'MMM 2' rather than 'Halving' so that the file name doesn't give the game away!
