This Chapter 3 Quadratics resource has been designed as a structured, progressive teaching sequence rather than a collection of disconnected lessons. Students first secure the essential algebra needed to solve quadratic equations, then build through factorisation, the quadratic formula and completing the square before applying these methods to functions and graphing.

The sequence then develops students’ understanding of roots, turning points and key graph features, before finishing with the discriminant and its link to the number of real solutions and the shape of a quadratic graph.

The lessons are designed to support clear teacher modelling, guided practice and independent application, making them suitable for classroom teaching, revision or intervention. The progression helps students revisit earlier knowledge while gradually increasing the level of reasoning and exam-style application expected in AS Mathematics P1.
