Illustrated Field Guide (non-chronological report) Complete Unit

This complete unit (13 Lessons) provides all teaching slides, lesson plans and pupil resources needed to teach an Illustrated Field Guide non-chronological report sequence.
Pupils explore the purpose and features of illustrated non-chronological reports before creating a field guide about an original mythical creature. They learn how information is organised using introductions, paragraphs, headings, subheadings, technical vocabulary and cohesive language. Pupils generate and develop ideas about their creature’s appearance, habitat, diet, abilities and folklore, using precise vocabulary to make their descriptions clear and convincing.
Across the unit, pupils plan, draft and edit sections of their report, focusing on vocabulary choices, varied sentence structures, punctuation and paragraph cohesion. They then bring their writing together and publish the finished field guide as a handmade zine, combining informative text with detailed illustrations, diagrams, captions and labels.
