Improving Behavior in Primary Schools
Empowering staff. Supporting pupils. Transforming behavior.
This six-part professional development series is designed to equip all school staff with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to improve behavior through a relational, consistent, and reflective approach. Each session is practical, evidence-informed, and tailored to the realities of primary settings.

Session 1: Understanding Behavior
Explore behavior as a form of communication. Learn how to identify the underlying causes of challenging behavior and reflect on how staff responses can shape pupil outcomes.
Session 2: Consistent Whole-School Approaches
Discover the power of consistency. Develop shared routines, language, and expectations that create clarity and security for pupils - and confidence for staff.
Session 3: Positive Reinforcement and Relationships
Harness the impact of praise and recognition. Build strong, trusting relationships that underpin positive behavior and create a culture of belonging.
Session 4: Targeted Support for Pupils
Identify pupils who need additional support and explore targeted strategies such as mentoring, check-ins, and behavior plans. Learn how to tailor interventions to individual needs.
Session 5: Monitoring and Evaluating Impact
Use behavior data and feedback to assess what’s working - and what’s not. Learn how to monitor interventions, adjust approaches, and involve the whole school community in continuous improvement.
Session 6: Engaging Parents and Carers
Strengthen partnerships with families to support behavior beyond the classroom. Explore effective communication strategies and collaborative approaches to behavior support.

Who is it for?
Teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff, senior leaders, and anyone involved in supporting behavior in primary schools.
Why take part?
