In Defense of Food Documentary Movie Guide | Worksheet | Questions | Google Slides (TV - 2015) challenges students to get the most out of this information dense film about how to have a healthy diet. Explore Michael Pollan’s simple guidelines and rules. Discuss what governments should and shouldn’t do to help improve health. Ask students to summarize what they learn about red meat, breast milk, carbohydrate, glucose and omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids. Research how the soda taxes from 2015 that are mentioned in film have performed to date. Finally, debate and evaluate all of Pollan’s rules and rank them from easiest to hardest to follow.

This resource consists of 15 high-level, short answer and essay questions that will do more than just ask your students to regurgitate information.

    **CCSS Note: I’ve taken the liberty of aligning certain reading standards with the act of consuming content via the movie instead. Although students are not reading they are asked to perform the same cognitive functions on the content that they consumed from the movie.

**Distance Learning Tips:

  • Distribute the google slides version to each student
  • Use the screen sharing tool on your group call software to play the movie
  • Pause the movie at each question to give students time to write/discuss
