Help pupils identify the gradient and y-intercept confidently—even when an equation is not already written as y = mx + c. This editable Year 9 maths PowerPoint combines clear worked examples with substantial practice, quick mini-whiteboard checks and reasoning tasks that go beyond spotting coefficients.

Save planning time with a complete teaching sequence, from retrieval and prerequisite checks to an exam-style question and exit checks. The 83 slides include questions and answers, so you can select and pace the material to suit your class.

CLEAR MODELLING, INCLUDING THE TRICKY CASES

Three matched I DO / WE DO pairs use different examples and build from equations in y = mx + c form to rearranging equations and dividing every term. Negative and fractional gradients are explicitly covered, with supporting graphs and worked solutions. Further examples include equations with x and y on the same side and horizontal lines.

PLENTY OF PRACTICE ON ONE PAGE

A 32-question practice page gives pupils sustained independent work without constant slide changes. Carefully sequenced questions vary signs, coefficients and equation forms, encouraging pupils to compare consecutive answers and notice what changes. A matching one-page answer slide makes checking straightforward.

DIFFERENTIATION THAT ADDS DEPTH

The whole-class differentiated page includes eight Developing questions, eight Secure questions, four Greater Depth questions and one Super Challenge. Pupils progress from identifying features directly to rearranging equations, correcting errors, finding missing coefficients and explaining when two equations describe the same line.

The Super Challenge asks pupils to find every integer coefficient pair that produces a specified gradient, identify which pair gives the same line and justify why their list is complete. An enlarged question slide and a complete worked solution support discussion.

CHECK UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT

• Six retrieval questions and six prerequisite questions, with grouped answers.
• Twenty core AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer. Short responses are suitable for mini-whiteboards; pupils do not need to draw graphs.
• A dedicated misconception check targeting signs and the need to divide every term.
• An original five-mark exam-style question with a worked marking guide.
• Three exit questions with answers to check understanding at the end.

READY TO TEACH AND ADAPT

Suitable for KS3 teaching and GCSE consolidation. Editable text, equations and diagrams make it easy to adapt examples or select tasks for your pupils. Stacked fractions keep the notation clear, and the display-ready activities need no printed pupil worksheets.
