This lesson introduces voltaic cells for the electrode potentials and electrochemical cells topic for year 13 of A level Chemistry. The lesson starts by reviewing principles covered in AS level relating to redox reactions. The lesson then focuses on the reaction between copper(II) sulfate and zinc to introduce the use of cells to measure current. An diagram and animation are included with accompanying questions to cover the example where the reactions, role of salt bridge, wires and ammeter are covered. A second example is then given before students apply their understanding gained to some further examples. Answers are given throughout the lesson.
