The lessons starts by reviewing the electron configurations of atoms and ions. Dot and cross diagrams are then introduced to show that electrons are transferred from metal atoms to non-metal atoms to provide full outer shells. Examples are given where arrows show the electron transfer from the atoms and the ions that are subsequently formed. Students then practice applying these principles to some questions they are given. Some summary questions are given at the end of the PowerPoint that students could answer on whiteboards to assess understanding.
Working out and answers are given throughout the PowerPoint.
