I made this lesson with the intention of either teaching it to a higher ability yr 10 or yr 9 class over one 90 minute lesson, or teaching to a lower ability class over two 90 minute lessons. Lesson contains a PowerPoint presentation on Ionic bonding along with notes section explaining each slide.
Lesson is used for AQA chemistry specification and aims to teach the following Learning Objectives:

• Illustrate the process of ionic bonding between Mg and Cl ions
• Calculate the charge of an ion from the group number of the element.
• Describe the limitations of diagrams / models to represent giant ionic structures.

Lesson also includes practical demonstration which requires the use of a fume cupboard as well as an interactive “game” that requires IT access and an exam style stretch question.
