Complete “Ready to go” lesson with no adapting necessary!
New for AAQ Pearson Applied Science BTEC from Sept 2025 Specification.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
This lesson covers:
• First Ionisation and Successive Ionisation Energy with equations - Students then practice writing ionisation equations and identifying which ionisation equations represent

•Further content on successive ionisation energy for a single element linked to electronic structure - Students then complete a graphing and comparison task where they will analyse results to explain differences in ionisation energy and electronic structure

•Factors that affect ionisation energy - Students then identify and explain which elements have the higher ionisation energy out of 13 questions

•IE trends across periods and down groups (Graph animated with descriptions and electronic structures to help student understanding) - Students then complete a gap fill to give a full description and explanation for the change in ionisation energy in periods (incl exceptions) and groups. Students then use data provided to colour a periodic table as a heat map to visualise the changes in ionisation energy

1x worksheet to be printed per student

AAQ Pearson Applied Science- 2A: Atomic and electronic structure

A bundle containing the full specification of content for the topic AAQ Pearson Applied Science - Unit 2A Atomic and Electronic Structure The lesson order is as follows: • Atomic Structure (21 slides) • Electronic Structure (21 slides + worksheet) • Ionisation Energy (20 slides + worksheet) A total of 62 slides worth of content! ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// All lessons follow a similar structure and design with: • Learning objectives and specification link • Recall starter activity with answers based on previous lesson • Explanation slides with clear concise diagrams - chunked in an easy to understand format • Variety of practice activities including exam questions, gap fills, differentiated questions etc. • Answers for all questions • All easily editable to adapt to your teaching or to use in existing lessons although all lessons are ready to go • Minimal printing - I understand how limited printing budgets - there is more printing then I would usually like in this bundle but it’s all practice I felt is best either using a periodic table or requires a template • The occasional fun and interesting fact. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// If any of my resources have saved you time, please leave a review - it helps others know if these resources are worthwhile!
