Jungle Dance Unit – KS1 PE Lesson Plans - 6 Outstanding Lessons

This KS1 PE resource contains six fully structured jungle-themed dance lessons for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Each lesson focuses on expressive movement, rhythm, and storytelling through dance. Pupils learn to perform actions that show mood, emotion, and coordination while working with a partner.

★ Lesson 1 – Mood Through Movement

★ Lesson 2 – Moving Like a Wild Creature
Starter uses jungle shapes and freeze poses. Pupils build a jungle journey with three shapes and travelling actions. Plenary focuses on interpreting shapes and mood.

★ Lesson 3 – Dancing in Unison
Animal-themed warm-up followed by partner work to create a friendship dance. Pupils perform three actions in unison for 8 counts each. Plenary uses echoing movements to reinforce timing.

★ Lesson 4 – Monkey Mirroring
Warm-up introduces mirroring through a tag game. Pupils create a dance with three mirrored actions and a leading/following section. Plenary encourages observation and feedback.

★ Lesson 5 – Jungle Farewell
Signal-based warm-up leads into a dance about separation and emotion. Pupils create a structured sequence with a start pose, two actions, and an end pose. Plenary uses frozen shapes to reflect story and mood.

★ Lesson 6 – Repeating Movements
Echo-style warm-up introduces repetition. Pupils create a dance showing jungle emotions with repeated actions and rhythm. Plenary involves guessing emotions and identifying repeated movements.
