Instruction Writing - Dinosaur English Planning
Suitable for KS1

Ever wondered How to Take Care of Your Dinosaur? Well with this planning, your children will write you some instructions! The hook for this lesson is for children to find a dinosaur egg alongside the book How to Take Care of Your Dinosaur by Jason Cockcroft, as well as an unusual envelope.

This plan includes 5 days of planning with the below WALTs:

  1. Make predictions.
  2. Identify key features of instructions.
  3. Write our instructions.
  4. Write our instructions.
  5. Follow a set of instructions (a lovely end where the children will test out each other’s instructions on their own pet dinosaur!)

This plan includes 4 levels of differentiation;
Red 1 - SEN children
Yellow 2 - Main task with a scaffold
Green 3 - Main task
Blue 4 - Greater depth/ mastery challenge
