KS3 Computing website design unit: students plan and prototype their own website over 5 lessons, with work and homework booklets and answers.

Students learn what makes a good website, then plan and build a prototype of their own, from a first idea through sitemaps, file management and peer review. Every slide looks like a browser window, which suits the topic.

5 lessons (PowerPoint)

  1. What is a Website?
  2. Website Design Principles
  3. Media and File Structure
  4. Designing Your Website (Part 1)
  5. Designing Your Website (Part 2)

Every lesson includes

  • “Today’s Tabs” learning objectives and a retrieval warm-up
  • A Hover Glossary of key vocabulary
  • Clear teaching slides: webpage features, website types, the four design principles (consistency, recognition, minimalist design, real-world match), sitemaps, file naming and digital assets
  • Independent practice tasks with answer slides
  • A Pop-Up Quiz with answers, a Leave a Review reflection, and a unit progress tracker
  • Teacher notes on every slide, including common misconceptions

Three pages per lesson, plus project planners: a sitemap planner, a style guide (colours, fonts, buttons), a full digital asset log, wireframe sketch pages, a peer review form and a self-assessment checklist.

Five homeworks plus two bonus challenges: analysing real websites, finding design principles online, drawing a sitemap, renaming files, collecting assets, copyright, planning for different audiences, and designing a 3-page mini-site.
