Everything you need to deliver the unit of elements, compounds and periodic table in year 8. Easily adaptable for Year 7 and 9. Each part include learning objectives.
The topic is divided in 7 parts:

  1. Atoms: lesson with video + slides with fill in the gaps activity
  2. Atoms and elements: chemical symbols + elements in the crust + is water an element? It includes a plenary: element research guidelines.
  3. The periodic table: lesson + mini plenary questions + metals refresh
  4. Compounds: fill a table with examples
  5. Formulae: simple rules + examples + hydroxides + exit ticket plenary.
  6. End of unit questions: 5 activities
  7. Revision: 35 minutes of revision activities + slides to check the proper answers. It can be used as a revision or assessment
    Coincides with Cambridge Checkpoint textbook/scheme of work, but can be used alongside any other SOW.
    There are 3 more files:
    • Word document for the exit ticket based on an Instagram post
    • Power point with the unit targets for students to revise
    • Extra power point with some of the old practical activities I used over the years.
