How can a map help us make a defensible decision?

Mapmakers & Geographical Thinking brings together four Year 7 geography modules in a purposeful sequence. Pupils build geographical vocabulary, practise map skills, interpret landscapes and apply their learning to a fictional rescue-route challenge.

THE FOUR INCLUDED RESOURCES

  1. Where in the World Are We? — world-location knowledge, continents, countries and cities, geographical scales and latitude/longitude.
  2. Grid References, Symbols & Distance — four- and six-figure grid references, compass directions, map symbols and scale.
  3. Reading the Shape of the Land — contours, relief, cross-sections and comparisons between maps and aerial photographs.
  4. Plan the Rescue Route — compare routes, calculate distances, justify a choice and revise it when conditions change.
