Short quotes from works of French literature, designed to develop receptive understanding of the imperfect subjunctive in A Level students. A brief conjugation table is included. You can ask your students to translate (orally or on paper) the quotes, and then discuss the various usages of the imperfect subjunctive that arise from this activity. Or, you can ask them to rewrite the activities using ‘modern’ French.
