Lesson 3 & 4.

3 Temperature and rate of reaction

Keywords: Rate of Reaction, temperature , particles, collision theory, kinetic energy & successful

ALL: recall the particle arrangement of a solid a liquid and a gas

MOST: describe the effect of increasing the temperature on rate of reaction

SOME: explain the effect of increasing the temperature on rate of reaction
S: States of matter

I: Particle theory- changing state pupils will need to have completed state of matter H/W before lesson.

M: Investigation into the rate of reaction of hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulfate at different temperature
- Get pupils to make a prediction. Scaffold sentence on slide 7
Assign pupils group and each group to investigate a different temperature. Share results and answer questions (LA might need more support HA questions in bold)

P:Conclusion word fill activity (LA with word, HA without)

Sodium thiosulfate, kettle, ice, crosses, measuring cylinders, hydrochloric acid & stopwatch

Graph paper
4 Temperature and rate of reaction- Application

Keywords: Rate of Reaction, temperature , particles, collision theory, kinetic energy & successful
ALL: recall the particle arrangement of a solid a liquid and a gas
MOST: describe the effect of increasing the temperature on rate of reaction
SOME: explain the effect of increasing the temperature on rate of reaction
LA sets might need to use part of this lesson to complete the graphs/questions from last lesson.

S: quick questions. Slide 2

I: Why does food go bad? Why do we keep in in the freezer for a longtime?

M:
A1- application temperature and rate of reaction questions

A2- further exam questions HA set (CGP on slides and L4 effect of temperature exam question.)

A3- particle cartoon activity LA + activity for HA

P. Complete the sentence or choose a picture and explain what you have learnt today.

HW for high ability could be the particle cartoon activity.
