Place Value Solve and Draw sheets for 4th grade standards are an easy, no-prep way to make review work or practice using large numbers more engaging. This space-themed set includes large number place value practice for 3 digit to 8 digit numbers, broken down into levels so you can differentiate or use different pages throughout the year as your students master larger numbers. Inspired by a group of reluctant mathematicians with amazing creativity, these printables are designed to engage students in math practice with an artistic twist. This resource may be used as a fun quiz or as a review. Perfect for the sub tub or a math center.

How Solve & Draw Activities Work

Students solve the place value problems and add to the space-themed drawing based on their answers. Students are directed on what to draw but are able to personalize the item to their preferences and drawing styles. Drawings can range from stick figures to anime inspired to cartoons to realistic and everything in between. Drawing is no-prep because it can be done with the student’s normal writing utensil (pen or pencil). You may choose to allow colored pencils, crayons, or markers but they are not required. This works well as a homework option for families who may not have those supplies to offer and is a great “print and go” resource for sub days, warm ups, and math centers!

These place value printables work well to extend thinking and for early finishers. An optional challenge page is included that can be copied on the back of the worksheet – this gives students an extension opportunity by asking them to create a place value problem that fits one of the incorrect drawing prompts or to create a new problem and their own drawing prompts. They can then add the correct drawings to their own paper or you can share them with the whole class for further practice!

This is a super activity to review place value for beginning grade 4. It gives them practice reading and saying big numbers, as well as recognizing the numbers. The drawing activity is a fun way to practice and also good for students to read and following directions. I like how the activities can be differentiated also. This is a great resource!
