Over the course of six lessons, pupils will have opportunities to develop an understanding of:

 • Covid-19 in the context of some of the world’s most common communicable diseases and pandemics from the past
 • how communicable diseases like Covid-19 may start and spread, and how this is investigated
 • relevant prevention strategies to foster positive physical and mental health and well-being.

In doing so, pupils will have the opportunity to develop core skills in critical thinking and problem solving, citizenship, student leadership, creativity and imagination and aspects of digital literacy.

This resource will help you make a contribution to a recovery curriculum in schools, and beyond this, by providing interesting, engaging and relevant content that encourages pupils to recall, discuss and process some of their thoughts, feelings and memories.

It is designed to support the United Nations’ Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs), in particular Goal 3: Good health and well-being

I used the activity ‘The benefits of vaccines’ from the Learning from a Pandemic template during session 1 of the online GTA course last week. A secondary Science teacher reflected on the activity and wrote
‘Most students could access it, with the most able being able to think critically about how the SDGs are often interlinked. It’s a simple and thought provoking and could easily be incorporated into a Biology Scheme of work. It could lead to an excellent discussion about affordability and ethics surrounding vaccines around the world’.

A Yr5 teacher also reflected on the activity and said
‘I think this is an engaging activity to promote discussion about something that is part of everyday life and truly global.’

Personally I looked through all the resources included in the template and there’s a huge amount to choose from with material which could be adapted for Yr2 children and all the way up to A Level students studying the Geography of Disease in Geography.
This is an excellent resource. There are a wide range of activities which are clear and easy to follow. I'd target it at upper KS2 and KS3. Extremely well designed to make life easy for the teacher(s) delivering it.
