This Year 1 resource provides a gentle introduction to solving problems involving length. It is designed to follow practical activities where children measure using non-standard units and uses cubes as the unit of measure throughout.
The activities encourage pupils to apply their measuring skills to simple problem-solving tasks while introducing the use of the part-part-whole model as a stepping stone towards bar modelling. This makes it an ideal resource for developing early mathematical reasoning and representation.
