This is a double lesson where studetns investigate the anatomy of a volcano and what the 3 different types of volcanoes are.
Starter activity is to label the anatomy of a volcano.
Main: Look at specific examples of volcanic eruptions and complete a mind map of specific case study examples, (worksheet included).

In groups students have to choose one of 3 real life volcanoes:

Bardon Hill Quarry (Scotland)
Montserrat
Icelandic (2010 one)

Instructions and model resources attahced and included as pdfs.

They have to follow the instructions to build a model of their chosen volcano in groups and then complete a series of activites to complete a description of its location and its specific features as an 3D model.

Plenary: A question to get students thinking and to make links to what they’ve learnt in lesosn by assessing 'Why the effects of volcanoes differ?
