A fun and practical resource for EYFS and KS1 that supports early maths skills through matching and sorting activities.
The pack includes 3 black and white worksheets showing pairs of socks for children to find, match and colour.
Children look closely at shape, colour, style and pattern, developing visual discrimination and early problem-solving skills.
The activity links directly to early maths concepts such as making sets, counting in 2s, recognising pairs and understanding that two items belong together.
The resource also includes 3 colour copies of the worksheets showing examples of how the socks could be coloured. Alternatively, children can choose their own colours, encouraging creativity and independent decision-making.
To extend the learning, collect a real basket of socks for children to physically sort and pair, teaching about matching and exploring the idea of odd socks in a hands-on, practical way.
Children could also design their own patterned socks, linking art and design with maths through repeated patterns, colour choices and pair creation.
