i tried this out with a top set year 10 chemistry group of 18 kids. it went really well thanks. i made a power point to start off and introduce different advantages and disadvantages which got the ball rolling. i also added a few more roles such as having 3 different farmers with slightly different view points. also two different points of view for the environmentalists (one was for quarry so that they could create a nature reserve once quarrying finished). Extra roles will make it easier to get everyone involved with my other year 10 class which is much larger. I'm happy to share these. Thanks

This is a great assessment that can be used for a number of topics. I do a very similar thing when looking at landuse conflict on Dartmoor and the role play assessment works really well. With encouragement pupils can really get in to this and take on the roles well. Thanks
