Students carry out a simple reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium of two different masses. In one reaction magnesium is in excess and in the other magnesium is the limiting reactant.
Students then carry out some analysis questions on the practical.
The lesson then moves on to using masses of the different reactants in a chemical reaction to identify the limiting and excess reactant. A worked example is given first and then students apply their understanding to some other reactions.
Worked answers are given throughout.
