Ordering numbers and place value (six days).

Children revise placing numbers with two decimal places between those on either side with one decimal place. A place value chart is used to introduce notation for thousandths. Children add multiples of 100, 10, 1, 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 to make numbers with three decimal places. This knowledge is used to add and subtract multiples of 0.1, 0.01 or 0.001 to eliminate a digit. Numbers with two decimal places are placed between those on either side with one decimal place, and children begin to place numbers with three decimal places. Children add/subtract 0.1 and 0.01 to/from numbers including those with fewer decimal places.
