Teach mixed coordinate and midpoint problems with this editable, 61-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. The lesson builds understanding through worked examples, clearly labelled diagrams where needed, independent practice and complete answers.

WHAT PUPILS LEARN
The lesson combines coordinates and midpoint reasoning with area and missing-vertex problems. Pupils find areas of axis-parallel rectangles and triangles, work out an unknown vertex of a parallelogram and use the centre of a rectangle to recover a missing corner. Diagrams distinguish the named figures and label the points and coordinates used in each question.

THE PRACTICE
The 24-question practice page uses four reusable figures with a stated value of k for each question. The one-page whole-class task includes eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions plus a separated Super Challenge. Its instructions specify when pupils are finding an area, a coordinate, the centre or a value of k. The figures are marked not to scale, allowing discussion of properties rather than visual guessing.

SUPER CHALLENGE
The Super Challenge asks for all possible axis-parallel rectangles with a fixed integer-coordinate centre and area 240 square units. Pupils organise the width-height factor pairs, identify the smallest perimeter, give the relevant vertices and explain why their list is complete. A schematic labels the half-width and half-height used in the reasoning.

PRINT-FREE CLASSROOM USE
Project the PowerPoint while pupils respond in exercise books or on mini-whiteboards. The questions are intended for a teacher-led lesson, with time to model an example, check responses and discuss a method before moving on. Pupils can record calculations and explanations without a printed worksheet. When a particular activity calls for drawing, they may still need their usual mathematical equipment.

LESSON STRUCTURE
The presentation includes a starter and the mathematical language needed for the lesson. I Do and We Do examples model the key relationships before pupils work independently. Assessment-for-learning questions and their following answers allow frequent checks. The practice and differentiated tasks support a shared whole-class display, while the answer slides give the teacher a clear point to pause for discussion.

PRACTICE AND FEEDBACK
The 24-question practice task is presented together on one slide, giving the teacher room to keep the class working while selecting a pace. The differentiated activity has eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions as well as a Super Challenge. Complete answers follow the tasks. The challenge solution makes the reasoning visible, so pupils can compare an argument with their own method.

Pupils can explain what a labelled number or line represents before calculating. This helps distinguish a correct method from an answer reached by guessing from the diagram.

Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later. Answers are included.

For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example. Editable slides make it possible to adapt a number or context for a class. Recheck the corresponding worked answer whenever a question is changed. Answers are included.
