Teach multiplying fractions with this editable, 63-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. Original questions develop multiplying fractions and integers, cancelling common factors, simplifying products, working with three fractions and finding missing factors.
Designed for print-free teaching: project the questions while pupils work in exercise books or respond on mini-whiteboards. The 24-question practice set and the differentiated whole-class task each fit on one screen.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 63 slides.
• Six retrieval questions and six prerequisite questions, each with grouped answers.
• Lesson language covering numerators, denominators, proper and improper fractions, factors, products, equivalent fractions, reciprocals, cancelling and simplest form.
• A shaded area model explaining a fraction of a fraction.
• Matched I Do/We Do questions in three-column, two-row layouts, with separate worked answers.
• A worked explanation of multiplying three fractions.
• Twenty AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer.
• One practice page containing 24 questions and a matching answer page.
• One differentiated page with eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions plus a Super Challenge.
• Separate differentiated answers and an explained challenge solution.
MODELLING AND UNDERSTANDING
An equal-part rectangle shows why two thirds of three fifths gives six fifteenths. Teaching connects this image to multiplying numerators and denominators, then simplifying. Worked examples develop cancelling one or two pairs of factors. Additional matched models cover an integer multiplier, estimating miles from kilometres and using a reciprocal to recover a missing factor.
ONE-PAGE PRACTICE
Four columns contain six questions each: integer multipliers, changing a numerator, common factors, and proper and improper fractions. Controlled changes help pupils compare neighbouring calculations and notice the effect of changing one value. Fractions are stacked, with clear spacing between rows for projection.
DIFFERENTIATED APPLICATION
Developing consolidates the methods with fresh calculations. Secure includes three-factor products, missing factors, distance conversion, a ribbon length, milk for half a batch and the area of a square. Greater Depth asks pupils to explain why a proper fraction reduces a positive number, correct invalid cancellation, construct fraction pairs and reason about the sizes of factors and products.
SUPER CHALLENGE
Pupils use 1, 2, 3 and 6 exactly once as the numerators and denominators of two fractions whose product is 1. They find every pair, explain why exactly one fraction must exceed 1 and decide whether both can be in simplest form. The solution lists all four pairs and explains why the list is complete. A divider separates the challenge from the other tasks on the shared page.

Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later.

For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example.
