25-page Multiplying Fractions pack for Year 5-6 (KS2): fractions × whole numbers, fractions × fractions and a mixed challenge, with visual models and guided steps. Answers included.
Fractions are so much less scary once children have actually seen what’s going on. That’s the whole idea behind this pack.
I tutor maths, and this is the order that has worked best with my own pupils: look at a picture first, work through a few problems with some help, then try it alone. The pages follow that same path. Fractions times whole numbers come first, then fractions times fractions, and a mixed challenge at the end pulls it all together.
Many of the pupils I’ve tutored do the same two things: they multiply straight across without really knowing what it means, and then they forget to simplify. So the pictures come first, and simplifying is built right into the guided pages.
