Mummy Math - Maths Storybook Lesson for KS1

What are 3D shapes and what are their attributes? Can you name the 3D shapes and accurately explain what a face, edge and vertex is? Find out all about pyramids, spheres, cones, cylinders, prisms, cubes and cuboids through this fun Maths adventure book by Cindy Neuschwander.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Ancient History and Maths, the children will be super engaged with this lovely book. It works great alongside a project on the Ancient Egyptians, or as a one-off around Halloween. The practical activity has a real-world sense of purpose as the children are tasked with cracking the code to the Mummy’s tomb!

The children get to build the 3D shapes to help with understanding so that they have models in front of them when they need to articulate how many edges, faces, vertices. As well as the children enjoying doing this it also has the added benefit of strengthening those fine motor skills too.
