
This narrative writing unit is suitable for students at the end of KS3 through to GCSE. It provides a structured way to learn the features of a successful topic, using a high interest model text based on a football match.
The unit contains:
Vocabulary Definition Match: An activity to match eight key words from the story (e.g., Cacophony, Writhing, Reverberated) with their correct definitions .
Spelling Challenge: A fill-in-the-letters activity to practice spelling eight words featured in the story
Sentence Fragment Matching: An exercise to match the first half of a sentence with its second half to form complete, meaningful sentences from the model narrative.
Model Story: A complete narrative titled “Write a story about a moment of sudden success that is quickly followed by an unexpected difficulty” .
Comprehension Questions: Detailed questions focused on analysing the literary craft of the model story.
Story Mountain Plot Planner: A structured planning tool using the five key stages of storytelling.
Blank Plot Planner: A blank version of the Story Mountain for students to fill out.
Storyboard Sequence: An optional visual planning tool with six panels to help students who need further support.

Also included is a booklet that includes a storyboard of a man getting soaked by a passing car. A vocabulary list of sensory adjectives and nouns is available, along with a writing scaffold
